NFBSG Lyrics

Written by Dave Dawson. This song is the true tale of Dave's life as a nightshift security guard at Canada's National Film Board in Ottawa. I laugh when I picture him in his brown polyester uniform, playing tennis against the huge lobby wall at 4:00 am.

Listen through the song to hear us pay tribute (via copyright infringement) to two of Canada's greatest contributions to entertainment. We end the song with a great rock rendition of the Beachcombers TV theme song after honoring Bob and Doug McKenzie's Great White North.

Here's a clip of the Beachcombers Theme Song

I am the National Film Board Security Guard
My job is to guard Canada's films
Films about the buffalo, films about the railroad
Films about the Iroquois and Norman Bethune
Films about the Iroquois and Norman Bethune

photo of Nick Adonidas and Relic, characters on The BeachcombersAnd though I'm all alone, I don't feel alone
And though I'd like to phone there's no one to phone
I do my rhymes all night and I turn the boilers on,
I love my job

Now that I'm on U.I. I sit at home alone and I cry
I receive a hundred and eight dollars a week
I get up in the morning and lament in the evening
That I can't be guarding Canada's films

I miss my coffee breaks. I miss staying awake
I wish that I could greet the courier again
I wish that I could greet the bread man again

And though I'm all alone, I don't feel alone
And though I'd like to phone there's no one to phone
I do my rhymes all night and I turn the boilers on,
I love my job

I am the National Film Board Security Guard
My job is to guard Canada's films
Films about the buffalo, films about the railroad
Films about the Iroquois and Norman Bethune

I am the National Film Board Security Guard
My job is to guard Canada's films
I haven't got a gun and I've been advised to run
If you come to conquer Canada's films
